Management of Your Pregnancy

Pathology Account:

During your pregnancy you will require pathology tests, most commonly at booking, 28 weeks, and 34-36 weeks. Additional testing may be required should a complication or abnormal result be returned (for example anaemia, gestational diabetes test, etc). The Pathology Company will bill you accordingly.

Ultrasounds:

During your pregnancy, it is recommended that you be referred for at least one ultrasound around 19 weeks. This is a detailed scan, and while this can be done in Ipswich, at Exact Radiology, SouthernX Radiology or Queensland Diagnostic Imaging, there are several practices in Brisbane providing a tertiary level of scan. They are SO+GI (Southbank), QUFW (Spring Hill), and Wesley Fetal Medical Centre (Auchenflower), among others. The above named practices also provide a DVD of your scan, 3D/4D pictures of your baby, and a counselling service.

At 12 weeks gestation you may like to have a screening test performed for Down syndrome (Nuchal Translucency) this involves a blood test and scan. Not everyone is eligible for a Medicare rebate for this screening. This test is not compulsory, but is very popular. You may also require additional scans during your pregnancy for different reasons and this will be discussed as your pregnancy progresses.
